About Abano Terme and the surrounding Area
Abano Terme is just a few miles from Padua and there are frequent buses between the two towns, a 35 minute journey. The buses stop just outside our hotel. Approximately half of the bus services also stop in Montegrotto Terme. Timetables are displayed on bus stops and are available from the tourist information office. For tourists travelling by rail, the principal station for the area is called Terme Euganee and is located in the centre of Montegrotto Terme (a bus ride from Abano). Direct trains from Venice, Padua, Bologna and other Italian towns stop at Terme Euganee.
Abano Terme has a large market which is held every Wednesday.
Montegrotto Terme Like Abano Terme, nearby Montegrotto Terme is made up of wide leafy streets studded with hotels advertising their spa treatments. One of Montegrotto’s attractions is the Museo del Vetro, easily reached by taking the bus from outside our hotel, and then a 10 min walk. The Museum features displays of artistic glass from Murano. This museum also contains some archaeological items discovered locally. It is located in a farmhouse near Villa Draghi. Villa Draghi is a faded villa in parkland just outside Montegrotto, at the start of an attractive nature trail. To get to the park and the museum, take the Via Castello from Piazza Roma. The museum’s opening times are limited (Tues-Sun afternoons) so check at the tourist office before you set out. There is also a pleasant small terraced café.
The market at Montegrotto Terme on Thursday can be reached either by local bus or the little road train from Abano Terme.
